O obrazu
Jan Baptist Weenix's Dutch Ambassador on the Way to Isfahan, dated 1653–1659, is in Amsterdam's Rijksmuseum. Joan Cunaeus travelled to Persia with his secretary Cornelis Speelman in 1651–1652 to encourage commerce in silk and horses. Speelman recorded their journey, describing sumptuous receptions and excursions to ancient sites. Probably shown here accompanying the two Dutchmen is the ruler of Bandar Abbas. The silk cloak worn by Cunaeus was a present from the shah. On view in room 2.9, The Netherlands overseas.
