O obrazu

Jan Baptist Weenix painted this hunting still life around 1650. The picture is held in Amsterdam's Rijksmuseum. A roebuck hangs by one leg, its body opened after the hunt. The knife remains on the table beside the entrails. A dog lunges towards a hissing cat, bringing movement into the scene. Weenix mainly produced landscapes and town views with figures, but also painted a few still lifes, including hunting subjects. This work entered the collection in 1800, making it one of the earliest purchases.
