Four ships arrive from Java in Hendrick Cornelisz Vroom's Return of the Second Expedition to the East Indies, painted in 1599, at the Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam. They reached home on July 19, 1599, after sailing from Bantam. Eight vessels had left under Jacob Cornelisz van Neck in 1598. The remainder continued to the Moluccas and later brought back nutmeg, mace and cloves. Displayed in room 2.9.

Under the command of Jacob Cornelisz van Neck, eight Dutch ships set sail to the Indonesian Archipelago in 1598. The first four returned from Bantam (Java) a year later, on 19 July 1599. The other ships had sailed on to the Moluccas (Maluku Islands). They too returned, laden with nutmeg, mace and cloves.
