The whole life1977–1993
Skowhegan Medal, Brandeis award, “Friends of Barcelona”
Lichtenstein received the Skowhegan Medal for Painting (1977), the Creative Arts Award in Painting from Brandeis University (1991) and the “Amici de Barcelona” award from Mayor Pasqual Maragall (1993).
1977–1996
Honorary doctorates
Lichtenstein received several honorary doctorates, among them from the California Institute of the Arts (1977), Southampton College (1980), Ohio State University (1987), the Royal College of Art (1993) and George Washington University (1996).
1994
A second retrospective at the Guggenheim
In 1994 the Guggenheim presented a second Lichtenstein retrospective.

1996
A gift to the National Gallery: 154 prints and two books
In 1996 Lichtenstein donated 154 prints and two books to the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C., which became the largest single repository of his work.
