Om skulpturen

A serrated halo marks radiating light around this Gandharan Seated Buddha of the first to mid-second century at New York's Met. Cast in bronze with surviving gold leaf, the figure raises his right hand in reassurance. His hair and draped robes reveal contact with classical Western sculpture. The statuette is 16.8 cm high and may be among Gandhara's earliest human images of Shakyamuni.
