Om skulpturen

Crowned Bodhisattva, carved at Mathura in the third to early fourth century, is in the Met's Indian galleries, New York. Curls fall toward the shoulders beneath a crown containing a Buddha image. Several necklaces cover the chest, including five strands of pearls and cords carrying cylindrical amulet cases. The raised forehead mark, or urna, indicates spiritual distinction within Buddhist imagery.
