Nella vita di Cecil Beaton

Diaries, 1922–1974
Six volumes of his diaries, spanning the years 1922–1974, are published in his lifetime. According to Hugo Vickers, who edited a fuller edition, opinions in the published volumes are softened, whereas in the originals Beaton can be truly venomous.

Publishes his memoir “Photobiography”
To coincide with its release, Vogue runs a June 1951 photo spread on his career, from early society portraits to Hollywood, wartime photography and official portraits of the British royal family.
1951
Critical remarks about Garbo resurface
Critical remarks he wrote about Garbo in his Scrapbook in 1937 resurface publicly and cause tension; they later reconcile somewhat and remain friends.
1951
Costumes for the Festival of Britain and a play at Brighton
He designs the costumes for Ronald Duncan’s play at the Festival of Britain, while his own production, The Gainsborough Girls, with his costume designs, opens at the Brighton Festival.

Designs for Broadway
His Broadway credits include The Grass Harp (1952), The Chalk Garden (1955), Saratoga (1959), Tenderloin (1960) and Coco (1969); he wins four Tony Awards for costume design, for Quadrille (1955), My Fair Lady (1957), Saratoga (1960) and Coco (1970).
