À propos du tableau

Unshitsu was a painter, calligrapher, and poet based in Shinano Province (now Nagano Prefecture). At age 5 he entered the Buddhist priesthood. When he was 19, he left for Edo (now Tokyo) and studied calligraphy. After various posts and intense studies of Buddhist scriptures, he became—at age 40—the 26th abbot of Kōmyōji, a Zen temple.
