À propos du tableau
This painting is by Daishin Gitō, a monk of the Buddhist Rinzai Zen school. In 1709 he became the 273rd abbot of the famous Daitokuji Temple in Kyoto. His painting of Daruma follows the style of Fūgai Ekun (1568–1654), who was an acclaimed master in depicting Daruma with just a few brushstrokes.
