    Chicago: “Flamingo”, “Universe” and a retrospective

    In 1974 two Calder sculptures are unveiled in Chicago, “Flamingo” at Federal Plaza and “Universe” at Sears Tower, while his retrospective opens simultaneously at the Museum of Contemporary Art.

  2. 1976

    The retrospective at the Whitney Museum

    A major Calder retrospective opens at the Whitney Museum in New York shortly before his death; in November 1976, soon after the opening, he dies unexpectedly of a heart attack.
