Death of his son and assistant Lorenzo
Lorenzo Bellotto (1744–1770), the painter's son, who had worked with his father on the royal commission for the views of Rome, died in 1770.

Sudden death from a stroke
Bellotto died suddenly in Warsaw of a stroke (the date is also given as 17 October). He was buried in the crypt of the Capuchin church on Miodowa Street (according to other accounts, in the churchyard); the grave has not survived.
