About the work

The renowned photographer, author, and educator Paul Shambroom recently made an exceptional gift of art to Mia’s collection, consisting of nearly two hundred photographs spanning the entirety of his career. His gift furthers Mia’s reputation an essential destination for scholars and admirers of American photography and makes accessible the largest body of his work in an institutional setting. This photograph of a cat, a car, and a little boy each pursuing different ends along an urban curbside encapsulates the observational acuity, wry humor, and formal clarity of Shambroom’s practice, which spans the better part of the last half-century.
