Professor at the Düsseldorf Art Academy
From 1979 to 1996 he is a professor at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf; another account calls him its chairman from 1979.
1991–1992
“Video Time – Video Space” in Basel and Zurich
A double exhibition at the Kunsthalle in Basel and Zurich, later shown in Düsseldorf and Vienna.

First major retrospective in Korea
“Video Time – Video Space” opens at the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art in Gwacheon: about 150 works, beginning with “The More, The Better”, and 117,961 paid visitors in 34 days. Paik tailors the selection to subjects close to Korean culture and history, and the Korea Broadcasting Corporation and Samsung Electronics take part in the organization.
1993
The German pavilion at the Venice Biennale
He represents Germany at the Venice Biennale together with Hans Haacke and shares the Golden Lion with him; for the pavilion he creates robot sculptures of historic figures, among them Catherine the Great and Dangun, stressing the links between Europe and Asia.

Suffers a stroke
A stroke paralyzes his left side; for the last decade of his life Paik uses a wheelchair, though he can walk with assistance. Complications from the stroke will cause his death.
