Onset of Failing Eyesight
Around 1865–1866 Daumier's eyesight began to fail; the condition progressed, though he continued to make drawings and poster sketches as late as 1872 and painted almost until his death.

Corot Gave Daumier a House
His loyal friend Corot secretly bought the house in Valmondois that Daumier was renting and presented it to him as a gift, writing in a letter: "I am not doing this for you, but to annoy your landlord."
1870
Franco-Prussian War
In 1870, during the Franco-Prussian War, the newspapers ceased publication and Daumier signed promissory notes.
