  1. 1930s

    The Nazis confiscate the “Compositions”

    A Nazi raid on the Bauhaus led to the confiscation of Kandinsky's first three “Compositions”, all of which were destroyed in World War II. His work was also caught up in the campaign against “degenerate art”; his now-lost “Zweierlei Rot” (1916) was shown in the Degenerate Art exhibition.

  2. 1936

    Guggenheim buys “Rigid and Bent”

    Solomon R. Guggenheim bought the large abstract painting “Rigid and Bent” (“Rigide et courbé”) of 1935 directly from the artist.

  3. 1939

    French citizenship

    In 1939 Kandinsky became a French citizen.
