    Departure from the School after the Conflict with the Suprematists

    In May 1920 the school came under the control of the Suprematists, which led to Chagall's resignation and his departure for Moscow.

    Emigration from Soviet Russia

    In 1922 he left with his family for Lithuania, where an exhibition of his work was held in Kaunas, and from there went on to Germany.

    Beginning of the Collaboration with Ambroise Vollard

    Back in Paris, he established a business relationship with the art dealer Ambroise Vollard and began creating etchings for illustrated books — Gogol's Dead Souls, the Bible, and the fables of La Fontaine.
