    His friend Johannes Wiedewelt drowns

    In December 1802 Juel’s old and faithful friend Johannes Wiedewelt drowned in Lake Sortedam; six days later, at Christmas (other accounts give 27 December), the painter himself died at the age of 57, leaving his wife with a seventh child.
