May one see it?
London, United Kingdom
It belongs to the collection, but is not on display at present.
This carved oak figure represents St John the Evangelist, seated with his right hand raised and his left holding a chalice. Once thought to be English, this figure has its closest parallels in sculptures produced in the valley of the River Meuse, in present day Belgium. Originally it would have formed part of an altarpiece and would have been fully painted.
