Meanwhile, in the life of Grosz, George

The whole life
  1. 1922–1923

Disillusionment with the USSR and leaving the KPD

Grosz's six-month stay in the Soviet Union leaves him unimpressed; he soon ends his membership of the KPD, although his political positions change little.

  2. 1923

    Chairman of the Red Group

Grosz becomes chairman of the Red Group, an association of proletarian artists formed around the satirical magazine The Cudgel, founded by the Communist Party of Germany. The group initiates and organises the first exhibition of new German art in the Soviet Union.

  3. 1924–1925

    Back in Paris

Grosz lives in Paris again (in 1924–1925 and once more in 1927); at the same time his work is shown at the first exhibition of German art in Moscow.

  4. 22 May 1926

    Son born: Peter M. Grosz
