  1. 1966–1969

    Honorary citizen of New Orleans and other honours

    In 1966 he is made an honorary citizen of New Orleans and wins a prize in Kraków and a gold medal in Rimini; in 1967 a prize of Japan's foreign minister at the Tokyo Biennale and a Carnegie Institute prize; in 1968 the “Prestige du Papier”; in 1969 a first prize in Kraków and the first “Golden Palette” at Cannes.

    An invitation to the Vision ’67 conference

    In October 1967 the designer Will Burtin invites Vasarely to make a presentation at his Vision ’67 conference, held at New York University.

    A professorship title in Budapest

    In 1969 Vasarely is awarded the title of professor at the Higher School of Applied Arts in Budapest.

  5. 1970

    Knight of the Legion of Honour

    In 1970 Vasarely becomes a Chevalier of the French Legion of Honour.

  6. 5 June 1970

    The first Vasarely museum opens in Gordes

    On 5 June 1970 Vasarely opens his first dedicated museum, with over 500 works, in a Renaissance palace in Gordes; it was closed in 1996.
