The whole life
  1. 1963

“Folklore planétaire”: the palette goes public

In 1963 Vasarely presents his palette to the public under the name “Folklore planétaire”; out of this plastic alphabet grows serial art, an endless permutation of forms and colours worked out by his assistants.

  2. 1964

    The Guggenheim Prize

In 1964 Vasarely receives the Guggenheim Prize in New York.

  3. 28 June 1964 – 6 October 1964

    Exhibition: Documenta III

  4. 1965

“The Responsive Eye” at the Museum of Modern Art

In 1965 Vasarely is included in the Museum of Modern Art exhibition “The Responsive Eye”, created under the direction of William C. Seitz.

  5. 1965

Grand Prizes in São Paulo and Ljubljana, an arts order

In 1965 Vasarely wins the Grand Prize at the 8th São Paulo Biennale and at the 6th International Graphic Art Exhibition in Ljubljana, the gold medal of the Paris society for the promotion of art and industry, and is made a knight of the Order of Arts and Letters.

  6. from 1965

The “Tribute to the Hexagon” and “Vega” series

The “Hommage à l'hexagone” series consists of endless transformations of indentations and relief with colour variations, a perpetual mobile of optical illusion; the “Vega” series plays with spherical swelling grids that create an illusion of volume.
