About the sculpture

Прекрасная нимфа опирается на высокий пень, у корней которого изображены крупные листья и распустившийся цветок. Это атрибуты дриад. Дриады жили в лесах среди цветущих деревьев. Женщина с тонкими чертами грустного лица левой рукой подхватывает легкую, прекрасно выполненную в спокойной и мягкой манере драпировку, покрывающую ее фигуру многочисленными складками, которые как бы слегка колышутся от дуновения ветерка.

В античном мире верили, что дриады живут и умирают вместе с деревьями. Их образ часто встречается в поэзии, искусстве.

Исследователи считают эту статую одной из самых ценных приобретений для Летнего сада.
