    Flees German occupation for Zürich

    In 1942 Arp fled his home in Meudon to escape the German occupation and lived in Zürich until the end of the war.

  2. 1943

    The death of Sophie Taeuber-Arp in Zürich

    In 1943 Sophie Taeuber-Arp died in Zürich, where the couple had moved to escape the occupation of France, of accidental carbon monoxide poisoning.

  3. 18 January – 12 February 1949

    Solo exhibition at the Buchholz Gallery, New York

    Arp visited New York for a solo exhibition at the Buchholz Gallery, which coincided with general international recognition of his work.
