Sets out for Italy with Philip of Burgundy

Leaves Mechelen with the admiral Philip of Burgundy and his retinue; the admiral is bound for Pope Julius II on a diplomatic mission on behalf of the regent Margaret of Austria (other accounts say it was at the behest of Philip the Handsome). Philip is believed to have taken Gossaert into his retinue for the length of this mission; after 1507 the painter's name vanishes from the Antwerp archives.
