  1. 1960s

    Ink and Eastern calligraphy

    Alechinsky moves to more fluid materials — ink — becomes fascinated by Eastern calligraphy and grows close to the Chinese painter Wallace Ting, who lived in the United States.

  2. 1965

    Breton invites him to the Surrealist exhibition

    André Breton invites Alechinsky to take part in the 10th International Exhibition of Surrealist Art.

  3. 1965

    Switches to acrylics and a comic-strip manner

    Under Wallace Ting’s influence he begins working in acrylics in a technique close to comics.

  4. 1969

    Exhibition of the 1958–1968 works in Düsseldorf

    The Düsseldorf Kunstverein für die Rheinlande und Westfalen presents Alechinsky’s works of 1958–1968; the catalogue “Pierre Alechinsky: Werke 1958–1968” is published.
