The whole life
  1. 1944–1948

    Studies in Brussels

    He studies book illustration, typography and photography at the National Higher School of Architecture and Decorative Arts.

  2. 1949

    Joins the CoBrA group

    He joins the avant-garde CoBrA group, whose members included Christian Dotremont, Karel Appel and Asger Jorn. He took part in the group’s first and second exhibitions, in Amsterdam and Liège.

  3. 1951

    Moves to Paris

    After the CoBrA group breaks up he settles in Paris, grows close to the Surrealist circle and meets Alberto Giacometti, Bram van Velde and Victor Brauner.

  4. 1952

    Son born: Ivan Alechine
