Pen and ink illustration created for publication in a newspaper/illustrated magazine. It shows members of the Royal Family 'In the Royal Box at the Opera' and was drawn by the artist A.J. Finberg (1866-1939) in 1900. Handwritten captions at the base of the sketch identify some of the key figures in the box. In the foreground are the Princess of Wales (1844-1925), Princess Victoria (1867-1931) and the Prince of Wales, late King Edward VII (1841-1910).
This item is one of several theatrical drawings from a collection of sketches commissioned from contemporary artists to be printed in illustrated magazines. The collection was donated to the museum by Sir William James Ingram in 1914.
