About the work
Pen and ink sketch, with blue pencil crayons highlights, created for publication in an illustrated newspaper or magazine, probably The Penny Illustrated Press. It is captioned 'At the Greyhound', Lea Bridge Rd, and shows groups of couples dancing to the accompaniment of a live band.
The sketch was drawn by A.J.Finberg in 1892 and has been signed and dated by the artist in the bottom right hand corner.
This item is one of several theatrical drawings from a collection of sketches commissioned from contemporary artists to be printed in illustrated magazines. The collection was donated to the museum by Sir William James Ingram in 1914.
