Angel with a candlestick

ca. 1500 - ca. 1525 · Statuette · 58.1 × 31.8 cm

About the sculpture

This kneeling angel holding a candlestick is made by Simone Bianco. Bianco was born at Loro Ciuffena, Tuscany. He is first time recorded in 1512, when he received a commission for three reliefs of scenes from the Old Testament for the Chapel of the Sacrament in the Duomo at Treviso. The Anonimo Morelliano records two works by him in the collection of Andrea Odoni in Venice. The last documentary reference to his activity occurs in 1548.
