About the painting

Qian Hui’an was celebrated for transforming familiar literary themes into scenes of everyday life. Here, a man carrying a fishing basket walks beside a young boy holding a fishing rod beneath blossoming peach trees. These motifs recall the famous tale of the Peach Blossom Spring, in which a fisherman discovers an idyllic hidden world. Rather than illustrating the story itself, Qian reimagines its imagery as a quiet family outing. His delicate outlines, restrained colors, and gently flattened composition create a calm, lyrical atmosphere, while the paired figures and flowering trees subtly echo one another. The result is both a charming genre scene and a poetic evocation of harmony, leisure, and the enduring appeal of the Peach Blossom Spring ideal.
