About the painting

This album leaf pays homage to painter Dong Yuan, traditionally regarded as the founder of the Southern landscape tradition, through the literati practice of fang—studying, honoring, and reinterpreting the achievements of earlier masters. The gentle contours and layered forms evoke the humid riverine scenery of southern China, adapted to the refined idiom of the Qing Orthodox School, using delicate brushwork and subtle tonal variations to create a landscape of quiet continuity. The title’s notion of “endlessness” is expressed through the rhythmic extension of mountain and water, suggesting nature as an unbroken and ever-unfolding presence.
