About the sculpture
This is a boxwood statuette made in Netherlands, Malines, about 1670-1680. This statuette, representing the Virgin and Child, is similar to the slightly earlier one in the museum (A. 18-1951). Devotional figures like this were produced in specialised workshops in Malines.
