关于作品

“The Street” is from Romare Bearden’s early “Projections” series, which documents the artist’s childhood in North Carolina and his migration to Harlem. These works began as small collages made with newspaper and magazine clippings, photographs, and paint, which were then enlarged using the Photostat copy process—which allowed Bearden to create large–scale reproductions on gelatin silver paper. Speaking later of the series, Bearden said, “What I’ve attempted to do is establish a world through art in which the validity of my Negro experience could live and make its own logic. . . . The medium I used was chosen intentionally because assemblage forges a variety of contrary images into one unified expression.

Richard Baker Roshi whose teacher was Suzuki Roshi soon after he stepped down as Abbot of San Francisco Zen Center to found Santa Fé, N.M. & Crestone Colorado Zen Meditation Centers, and give transmission to Philip Whalen, Sensei. Here visiting apartment on East 12’th Street after return from East Europe where he’d taught zen sitting groups, we caught up on our samsaric adventures. Baker Roshi had hosted 1965 U.C. Berkeley Poets’ convocation, we’d remained friends, especially thru his kindness to poet Whalen whom he’d invited to S.F. Zen. Center. N.Y. Fall 1984., Allen Ginsberg, 1984, printed 1994

The first shopping cart street prophet I'd directly noticed, fall leaves scattered on Tompkins Park sidewalk, Avenue A & St. Mark's Place, over 40 years ago. Leshko's Restaurant was cheap and popular as at present on the corner a block south, I had my snapshots developed at a drugstore near Park Center eatery across the street on S. W. Corner, & was living with W. S. Burroughs a few blocks away 206 East 7th street - working as copyboy on now-defunct "New York World Telegram," my apartment rent $29.00 a month, three small rooms.
