关于这件雕塑
This is a sketch model for one of the stucco reliefs in the nave of the Basilica of S. Giovanni in Laterano in Rome. Twelve such reliefs were commissioned from Allessandro Algardi as part of Borromini's reconstruction of the interior of the Basilica begun in 1646. The reliefs were executed in stucco between 1646 and 1653, not, in the event, by Algardi himself, but by his pupils. Among these pupils was Michel Anguier, who according to recently-discovered documents, was responsible for the reliefs depicting the 'Flood' and the 'Crucifixion. These are his earliest known works. After his early training in Rome Anguier returned to France to become one of the leading French sculptors of the second half of the seventeenth century.
