The Nazis confiscate the “Compositions”
A Nazi raid on the Bauhaus led to the confiscation of Kandinsky's first three “Compositions”, all of which were destroyed in World War II. His work was also caught up in the campaign against “degenerate art”; his now-lost “Zweierlei Rot” (1916) was shown in the Degenerate Art exhibition.

The Bauhaus leaves Dessau for Berlin
After a Nazi smear campaign the Bauhaus left Dessau for Berlin, where it remained until its dissolution in July 1933.
1933
Leaves Germany for Paris
When the Nazis, now in power, closed the Bauhaus, Kandinsky left Germany and settled in Paris.
1936
Guggenheim buys “Rigid and Bent”
Solomon R. Guggenheim bought the large abstract painting “Rigid and Bent” (“Rigide et courbé”) of 1935 directly from the artist.
