Om skulpturen
An openwork grapevine encircles the Marble Urn, a Byzantine vessel made around 400 and held by the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. The stone vase is 55.2 centimetres high, nearly as wide as it is tall. Similar vessels appear in secular and religious art of the period, from mosaics and textiles to jewellery and silver book covers. The vase is displayed in gallery 301.
