About the painting
This folding paper fan is decorated with two groups of pines set against a golden background. Kamisaka Sekka created a sense of perspective by grouping the trees and varying their sizes. The image is cropped by the edge of the fan, which is typical of compositions in the decorative Rinpa style of painting.
