Carel Willink (1900–1983), the Amsterdam painter of magic realism, was also a photographer, illustrator and graphic artist; he was born and died in the same city. The Rijksmuseum holds 555 of his works, most of them drawings and sketchbook leaves, alongside watercolours, prints and photocollages. Studies of fish, a landscape with a church and a drawing of a Corinthian capital give a sense of the range on paper.
