A Roman by birth and death, Bartolomeo Pinelli (1781–1835) studied at the Academy of Fine Arts of Bologna and worked as a painter, watercolourist, lithographer and draughtsman. His 453 works in museums, drawings, watercolours and prints along with a few statuettes, are spread from the Museo Nazionale di San Martino in Naples and Cooper Hewitt to the Albertina and the Tartu Art Museum. Peasant life and antiquity are his twin themes: a peasant family cooking over a campfire, another with two donkeys, two ancient warriors fighting over a dead comrade.
