The May Queen festival at Whitelands College
In the 1880s Ruskin becomes involved with Whitelands College, a training college for teachers, where he institutes a May Queen festival that endures today.

The autobiography “Praeterita”
In his autobiography “Praeterita” (1885–89) Ruskin paints his childhood as lonelier and more joyless than it really was: he did have few friends of his own age, but it was not as bleak as he later said.
