Over het schilderij
De Gele Rijders (In 't duin) is een schilderij van de Nederlandse kunstschilder George Hendrik Breitner, geschilderd in 1885-1886, olieverf op doek, 115 x 77,5 centimeter. Het toont militairen van het Korps Rijdende Artillerie in de gele Hollandse duinen, in een impressionistische weergave. Het werk bevindt zich sinds oktober 1886 in de kunstcollectie van het Rijksmuseum Amsterdam.
In de woorden van het museum
The elite ‘Yellow Riders’ (a mounted artillery corps) gallops down the dunes at breakneck speed. Breitner took full advantage of their black-and-red busbies and the gold braid on their uniforms. The repetition of these colour accents reinforces the dynamism of the movement. The sand kicked up by the horses at front clouds the view of the horsemen behind. All that remains are the accents of black, yellow and red.
