Jean Broc (1771–1850), a French painter born in Montignac, studied at the École des Beaux-Arts as a pupil of Jacques-Louis David and died in Lopatyn. His five works in museums are at Argenteuil, the Musée Magnin in Dijon, the Louvre and Versailles. They take classical and modern subjects alike: The School of Apelles, Ulysses among the Phaeacians of 1800–1805 and The Shipwreck of Virginie, together with The Death of General Desaix, as a painting and as a drawing dated 1806. One is on view now.
