Washington attraversa il fiume Delaware (Washington Crossing the Delaware) è un quadro olio su tela realizzato nel 1851 da Emanuel Leutze. Tale opera commemora l'attraversamento del fiume Delaware da parte del generale George Washington la notte tra il 25 e il 26 dicembre del 1776, durante la guerra d'indipendenza americana. Tale azione diede il via all'attacco a sorpresa che si concluse con la battaglia di Trenton nell'omonima località del New Jersey in cui gli americani sconfissero le forze dell'Assia, che appoggiavano gli inglesi.
In origine tale opera faceva parte della collezione Kunsthalle a Brema in Germania e fu danneggiato in un bombardamento britannico nel 1942. Il figlio dell'autore ne aveva però dipinto una seconda versione, che si trova ora al Metropolitan Museum of Art di New York. Ci sono perciò molte copie, una delle quali si trova nell'ala ovest della Casa Bianca.

For visiting Americans he is a real resource: he finds them places to live and work, provides introductions, and gives them emotional and even financial support. For many years he is president of the Düsseldorf Artists’ Association.

Fire in the studio damages the first version
Just after its completion the first version is damaged by fire in his studio; it is restored and acquired by the Kunsthalle Bremen.
1851
Second version shown on Broadway
The second, larger replica of the first version, ordered in 1850 by the Parisian art trader Adolphe Goupil for his New York branch, goes on exhibition on Broadway; it is now owned by the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.
