В облике возлежащей дамы можно найти портретные черты художницы, как и в других персонажах ее произведений. Эта фигура заставляет вспомнить полотна других живописцев: Энгра – «Большую одалиску», Матисса – «Радости жизни». Используя пастельные тона, тонкие цветовые переходы и упрощенные формы, Лорансен создает характерный для ее творческой манеры образ обитательницы «страны фей» – утонченный, грациозный, почти бестелесный. В 1913 или 1914 году картина была приобретена в собрание знаменитого московского коллекционера С. И. Щукина и уже в России получила это название.

In 1907 Picasso introduces her to the poet Guillaume Apollinaire; their passionate affair lasts until 1912, he dedicates poems to her, and she is often identified as his muse.

She belongs to Picasso's circle and to the Cubists associated with the Section d'Or (Jean Metzinger, Albert Gleizes, Robert Delaunay, Henri Le Fauconnier, Francis Picabia), exhibiting with them at the Paris salons and at the Galeries Dalmau, at the first Cubist exhibition in Spain.
