Sul dipinto
The inscription identifies the work as “after Li Cheng, ” one of the most revered landscape painters of the Northern Song dynasty. Rather than copying a lost prototype, Jin engages in the literati practice of fang (emulation), a mode of artistic dialogue that combines homage, study, and creative transformation. Delicate ink outlines and restrained color washes evoke the stillness of a frozen world, while layered mountain forms create a sense of monumental scale. Although filtered through Qing taste, the composition recalls the austere grandeur and poetic solitude traditionally associated with Li Cheng’s landscapes.
