Etchings at Studio Prints
In the last 25 years of his life Freud made etchings with advice from the Armenian-born artist and printer Marc Balakjian at Studio Prints in Kentish Town, London; 143 of these prints are in the V&A's collection.

Retrospective at the Museum für Moderne Kunst, Frankfurt
Freud prepared the exhibition “Naked Portraits” in personal dialogue with curator Rolf Lauter — the only project he authorised in direct cooperation with a German museum. All its prints bore his Sleeping by the Lion Carpet (1995–96), showing the nude Sue Tilley.

Lives with the journalist Emily Bearn
In 2001 Freud began living with the 27-year-old journalist Emily Bearn; later, at 82, his lover was the 32-year-old art student Alexandra Williams-Wynn.

Constable exhibition chosen by Freud at the Grand Palais
The Louvre and the Réunion des musées nationaux presented a Constable exhibition chosen by Lucian Freud at the Grand Palais in Paris — one great English painter introducing another to the French public.

Exhibition at the Wallace Collection
The Wallace Collection in London showed Freud's work, which Robert Hughes reviewed in The Guardian as “The Master at work”. No contemporary artist had been exhibited in those rooms before him.
