Nella vita di Fra Bartolommeo
Tutta la vita1514
To Rome to see the work of Michelangelo and Raphael
In 1514 (by other accounts 1513) Fra Bartolomeo went to Rome to see the new works of Michelangelo and Raphael and was so impressed that he lost his self-confidence and hurried back to Florence. In Rome he painted a Peter and Paul (now in the Pinacoteca Vaticana), and on leaving he placed two unfinished pictures in Raphael’s hands, which Raphael completed.

His last months at the convent of Pian di Mugnone
Fra Bartolomeo spent the last months of his life at the convent of St Mary Magdalene in Pian di Mugnone, a house of the Dominicans of San Marco near Fiesole. His last work, a fresco of Noli me tangere, is there too; the Feast of Venus promised to Duke Alfonso I d’Este of Ferrara survives only in drawings.
