Member of the Presidium of the USSR Academy of Arts and secretary of its sculpture department (1957–1966); again a member of the Presidium in 1968–1970.
1958
Grand Prix at the Brussels World Exhibition
He is awarded the Grand Prix of the Brussels World Exhibition; in the same year, a silver medal of the USSR Ministry of Culture.
1959
People’s Artist of the USSR
He is made a People’s Artist of the USSR (earlier he had become a People’s Artist of the RSFSR in 1951 and an Honoured Art Worker of the Kazakh SSR in 1957).
