Mihata Jōryū’s paintings of beautiful women with well-defined features and luxuriously designed kimonos were very fashionable, even in trendy Edo (modern-day Tokyo). The black obi, or sash, worn by this stylish woman is decorated with a dragon placed amid stylized, curly clouds.
