À propos de la sculpture
La Rivière est une œuvre du sculpteur français Aristide Maillol. Il s'agit d'une sculpture en plomb. Créée en 1938, elle est installée à Paris, en France.
L'exemplaire fut installé en 1964-65 par André Malraux et Dina Vierny, personnalité à l’origine de la création du Musée Maillol de Paris.

First exhibition with Ambroise Vollard
In 1902 the art dealer Ambroise Vollard gave Maillol his first exhibition.

Rodin admires “Leda”
Visiting Maillol's first solo exhibition in 1902, Auguste Rodin was delighted by his Leda (1902) — a recognition of the path he had chosen and a kind of blessing from the famous master.
1910
A commission from Ivan Morozov
In 1910 Maurice Denis introduced Maillol to the Russian collector Ivan Morozov. For the music salon of Morozov's Moscow mansion on Prechistenka, Maillol created four allegorical sculptures — Pomona, Flora, Spring and Summer.
1912
A monument to Cézanne for Aix-en-Provence
In 1912 Cézanne's home town of Aix-en-Provence commissioned a monument to the painter from Maillol, himself called “the Cézanne of sculpture”. He worked on the model, a nude female figure, for more than ten years, but the commissioners rejected it as too plain; after a loud scandal the sculpture was installed in the Tuileries Garden in Paris.

Retrospectives in New York and Basel
In 1933 two retrospective exhibitions of Maillol's work were held, in New York and in Basel.
